Hight Farm

Macon, NC (Warren County) - Pork

My family raised hogs on pasture until 1996 when the bottom fell out of the market, and pork prices went to 8 cents a pound. We took a break from raising pigs for ten years and decided to try it again.   Now we run a 20-sow farrow-to-finish operation exclusively on pasture.  I prefer to sell my hogs through wholesale channels and have had success selling to Whole Foods Market and Weaver Street Market, through NC Choices.  We are also members of the NC Natural Hog Growers Association, which has opened up some new markets for us.  I am 23 years old, a Macon, North Carolina native and what you would call a "new generation" farmer.  I’ve been farming my whole life and take pride in  continuing  a farming tradition that  has been in the family for generations.
