Farmhand Foods www.farmhandfoods.com is a start-up company based in Durham, NC. The project was  incubated by the Center for Environmental Farming Systems and its NC Choices’ initiative in response to the growing demand for pasture-based meats and the challenges individual farmers face scaling the supply for wholesale markets.  As a branded meat processing company, Farmhand connects local livestock producers to local markets  by delivering local, pasture-raised beef and pork products to retail & specialty grocers, restaurants and direct to consumers through their mobile “Sausage Wagon.”  Farmhand Foods supports a network of over 20 producers who raise their animals on pasture, without the use of growth-promoting antibiotics or added hormones,.  Farmhand traces its meats back to the farm of origin, allowing consumers to know precisely where their food comes from and how it was raised.  Farmhands works closely with small-scale, commercial processors throughout the state and its sausages are custom-made by Acre Station Meat Farm in Beaufort County. Funding in support of Farmhand Foods is provided by the NC Rural Center, the Tobacco Trust Fund Commission, and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
