Michael and Christy Underwood

We are located in Lawndale, NC at the foothills of the Appalachains and currently raise and direct market our natural meats to our local community and the Charlotte/Mecklenburg area.  Our family is dedicated to providing the healthiest meats available. That is why all of our animals are raised without the use of antibiotics, growth hormones, or steroids.  We use sustainable agircultural practices to farm in unity with nature and provide a low-stress environment for our animals to live out the good life, on open pasture and in fresh air.  We are certified meat handlers and are members of NC Choices, Goodness Grows in NC, Foothills Fresh, Appalachain Sustainable Agriculture Project, and Carolina Farm Stewardship Association.

 If you find yourself in our neck of the woods,  you can stop by the Foothill Farmers' Market in historic uptown Shelby on Saturday and Wednesday morinings from 8am-1pm during the market season (May-Oct.).  When you are dining out in Charlotte look for our naturally delicious meats on the menu at these fine restaurants; Big Daddy's Burger Bar (East Blvd. or Ballantyne locations), Rooster's Wood Fired Kitchen near South Park, Erin's Restaurant in Rock Hill, SC, or The Club at Longview in Waxhaw.  We are also at the regional famers' market in Charlotte every Saturday from 8am-12pm, so come and visit us.   Our pork, beef, and lamb are sold by appointment from the farm and you won't believe the difference until you taste it! 

 After we met  in 2003, fell in love and started a family,  Michael finished his bachelor's degree in History at UNC-Wilmington.  We then experienced what we still believe was divine intervention, Michael felt led to farming.  We begin reading about Joel Salatin and how we too could farm.  A year later we sold our house at the beach and moved to the mountains to  begin our internship on a farm.  We completed our internship and struck out to begin our life together as farmers.  Now it is four years later and we lease 200 acres in Cleveland County where we raise and sell our natural and delicious pork, beef, and lamb.  We still feel we are being led and blessed by God everyday on our path to find "our family farm".
