We started Fickle Creek Farm with the objective of creating a system that has minimum impact on the environment, is sustainable and includes humane treatment for the animals we keep.
Pigs, goats, steers and sheep are all raised on pasture without medicated feed, hormones or grain finishing. Our pigs live in areas with trees for shade in summer and are provided shelters as refuge from rain and snow. Feed is purchased from a local feed mill here in Efland.
Our fruits and vegetables are naturally grown without inorganic chemical inputs and our chickens are free of hormones, antibiotics or animal by-products.
We have farm-fresh eggs year-round.
Approximately once a month we have a group of our pasture-raised animals processed at a local USDA-inspected facility. Typical pork cuts include chops, ribs, ham (roasts, slices and steaks), Boston/picnic roasts, tenderloin, loin roasts, ground pork, hot/mild sausage, slab bacon and fat back.
Our natural, wholesome and great tasting foods are sold at the Farmers’ Markets in Durham and Hillsborough and direct from our farm; call or e-mail to arrange an appointment.
The Fickle Creek Bread & Breakfast is a beautiful, tranquil and life-affirming experience; stop by and spend the night (but call ahead for reservations!).
